Tips for your student to succeed in school

昨日の英語クラスは、Monta Vista HighのVice Presidentの一人をお迎えして、お話をうかがった。
その方はお話も上手だし、魅力的な方で、30分では短すぎた位。
質問したいことも山ほど頭に浮かんできたが、時間切れ。

その時に、くださったプリント。
お友達にも是非伝えてね、とおっしゃってたので、ここでご紹介します。

1. Be patient when your child has a hard time understanding his/her work
2. Don't pressure your students to get all "A's"
3. Speak English at home as much as possible-practice with them!
4. Watch English-speaking TV shows
5. Don't pressure them to "test out" of ELD classes
6. Practice speaking English with your student- all the time!
7. Don't yell at your kids when they do something wrong
8. Get practice books and read them with your student
9. Encourage your student to make new friends that are from other ethnic backgrounds
10.Encourage your student to join clubs other than Asian-American, etc.
11.Congratulate your student on his successes
12.Do homework with your student-you can both learn English better
13.If funding is available, get tutors to help in subjects your student is having trouble
14.E-mail your student's teacher if you find they are getting low grades in class-find out why and help your student by watching him do assignments
15.Listen to English music stations
16.Comunicate with other parents that speak your language these tips on this sheet!
17.Let your student attend high school social events in the evening- it gives them a chance to make new friends and have new experiences
