学年末

今週で、この学年も終わりだ。
最後の週だというのに、Yに月曜日までという宿題があって、この週末はそれにかかりっきりだった。
それを見た人が「行きたいな〜」と思うようなSunnyvale(人によって市が違う)のポスターを作り、スピーチをする、というもの。
歴史的名所(?)をめぐって写真を撮り、ポスターを作りの方はずいぶんと手伝うこととなってしまったが、スピーチはYが一人で書いたので、学年末の記念に、Sunnyvaleの紹介をしましょう。

Sunnyvale is sometimes called "heart of Silicon Valley". Why? It's because it has the most high-tech companies than any other city in the world. It has changed from a center of agriculture and heavy industry to a community with a wide range of high-tech industries conducting research, development, and manufacturing.
The land around it was once inhabited by the Ohlone Indians. Now I will tell you about the structures.
The Briggs-Stelling House was originally built for Mr.Briggs in the 1870's and was rebuilt in the 1920 for the Henry S. Stelling family.
The Collins-Scott winery was built by the Collins brothers in 1881. It is the oldest brick building in Sunnyvale. At one time a railroad was built and more than 300 gallons of wine were shipped daily.
Murphy Station Landmark district once had a railroad near by and one of the station's name was Murphy station. That time, Murphy bought 200 acres for about $38,000, and used it to make Encinal, which was renamed Sunnyvale in 1901 and incorperated in 1912.
The Vargas redwood trees were planted by Manuel Vargas, later known as "Mr. Sunnyvale".
Now Wright Ranch was built in 1870 and it is the oldest remaining Ranch house in Sunnyvale.
The Del Monte building was built in 1904. It was a packing company which processed dried fruits from near by orchards.
The Spalding House was built in 1916 by C.C. Spalding.
The last structure is the Lilly water tower that was built in 1907 by Mcneill and Libby. By 1922, it became the world's largest cannery.
The total population is 131,127. The Lockheed Martin Missles and Space, which studies aerospace, is the largest city business.
In Sunnyvale, there are 8 elementary schools and 2 middle schools.
Sunnvale is north of Cupertino.
